Recognition of Plosives in Running Speech
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper the authors propose a completely automatic speake r independent system to recognize a ll six stop consonants in continuous speech. Thi s system makes use of three differe nt distinctive features including formant transitions, silent interval and voice onset time. One hundred and twenty sentences from six English speakers were selected and tested by the system. The results confirm that no single feature can account for th0 distinction of voiced and unvoiced stop consonants. A comparison of the res ult s of three diffe rent distinctive features has been made .

Nasality in speech and its contribution to speaker individuality
The term nasality refers to the timbre of the nasal phonemes. It is also used to express the quality of sound that characterises some speakers. In this paper, we propose to classify nasality in natural speech into four types: phonemic nasality, nasality in assimilation, incidental nasality in the production of voiced plosives, and nasality associated with speaker individuality. Speech sounds re...
متن کاملDetection of phonemic aspiration for spoken Hindi pronunciation evaluation
The computer-assisted learning of spoken language is closely tied to automatic speech recognition (ASR) technology which, as is well known, is challenging with non-native speech. By focusing on specific phonological differences between the target and source languages of non-native speakers, pronunciation assessment can be made more reliable. The four-way contrast of Hindi stops, where voicing a...

purposes is a demanding task, especially to find recognition parameters for some consonants. In this paper, we show the initial analysis results of speech corpus, sampled with two sampling rates, 22050 and 8000 Hz, using Higuchi fractal dimension. The study shows that it might be possible to use fractal dimension value for classification of for example plosives /k/, /p/ and /t/. However, the an...
متن کاملKnowledge Based Approach to Speech Recognition
This paper presents a knowledge/rule based approach to continuous speech recognition. The proposed recognition system (Samouelian, 1994) uses a data driven methodology, where the knowledge about the structure and characteristics of the speech signal is captured explicitly from the database by the use of inductive inference (C4.5) (Quinlan, 1986). This allows the integration of features from exi...
متن کاملPhonetic study for automatic recognition of Arabic
We propose in this paper a phonetic study of standard Arabic based essentielly on the spectrographic visions of 50 sentences of the DJOUMA corpus we have constituted. This study allowed us to determine the pertinent parameters of continuous speech recognition. For the recognition part, we present the algorithms developed and the results obtained for three important questions: The segmentation o...
